The city of Detroit has a long history intertwined with the auto industry, a lively music scene, and a thriving urban culture. When the economy collapsed, much was talked about the loss of that economic promise. But what many don’t know about was the loss of green spaces in Detroit — more than 500,000 trees were lost to poor maintenance and disease. The impact: nearly 100,000 new trees planted, enough to offset 1.3 million pounds of CO2 per year. See how the environmental nonprofit has transformed the way citizens think about Detroit.
